The Operating room in Bolivia

Everything we do today started with the first steps we took as toddlers, who we are as people, what our goals are, the dreams we have, the decisions we are making, all these give directions and push us onward towards greatness. Giving us a spirit of determination to pursue what it is providence has for our present path and future. One of the these moments for myself was while in Bolivia last year a very small little lady with a severely infected gall bladder found her way through our hospital doors. I had just a few minutes with her as she waited for the operating room to be prepared, she sat close to me clinging to my hand though considered rather small in my country was enormous to hers. She held on nonetheless and she look at me with anxious eyes, in my heart a wave of compassion came over me as I realize how blessed I was by this small yet beautiful creation of God’s. She trusted me, a stranger, to boot a complete foreigner who neither spoke her language nor understood it. Placing myself near I called for a translator, telling her all would be all right and it was time to relax and sleep. She held on till at last her eyes closed and it was time to begin the procedure. Her confidence  reminded me of the privilege we have to serve these people. They don’t just invited us or arrange our trip they ultimately put their lives in our hands; this is nothing short of truly incredible. Stepping back and processing the amazing moments we are given makes my heart smile. Her surgery was one of the harder cases we had that week as her gall bladder was practically rotten and had turned to gangrene, spilling infection throughout her body. We worked for hours removing the infection, she had several fevers afterwards and was extremely weak, yet by God’s kindness she recovered. This was an eternal moment not a transient one and to think supporters like you made this possible is truly part of the story we are writing by God’s grace together.
