Patients lined the hallways, not a spare bed was in sight, the air was thick the stench overwhelming. I watched as my little sister current student looked around her and I knew it was starting to get to her. I was thinking about how this trip was going to completely take out the heart of stone and how I had prayed for many years for God to give her a heart for His kingdom and the needs all around. In 1998 I began praying for a baby sister, I was just eight years old at the time. Having had my prayer unanswered with the birth of a baby brother just a year before, I began praying once again for a sister. In 1999 God answered that prayer and now 19 years later she is here with me seeing things that she could never have imagined before. A small child’s wailing brought me to reality and as I watched my sister, my own heart was grieving for those I saw around me. We were going to visit a patient in the ICU, someone from the local church who was struggling with her diabetes type II. We met Auntie Nic-Nic she looked tired and very ill. She asked us if we could sing for her, so in the ICU ward filled with patients my sister and Dr. Jena and I sang Amazing Grace. Tears streamed down Auntie Nic-Nic’s face and I fought to hold back mine. A critical moment for my younger sister who had never done something like that before in her life, before leaving other patients asked us to pray with them as well. The ministry of music is huge touching souls that are suffering by reminding them of God’s grace despite the difficulties they face. Such a blessed time to be with those struggling all around us and to feel their pain and for a moment lift their weary hearts before the throne of Grace. From that time I have noticed a great softening in my sisters heart towards the Lord and am excited to see how God will push her in the coming days closer to Himself. God has been doing so many things here and around the Philippines it is good to be back and I am excited to share more in coming posts on what the Lord is doing!
